The Mazda Furai concept first appeared at the 2008 Detroit Motor Show. The Furai is a sports car concept with impressive underpinnings. The chassis comes from a race bred unit used in the American Le Mans Series, while power comes courtesy of a 450 horsepower three-rotor, ethanol-fueled rotary engine. The styling of the Mazda Furai concept continues with Mazda's contemporary design inspiration of flow. This is apparent in the way the lines of the car seem to sweep in one direction. This design language can be seen on the Mazda Nagare, Ryuga, Hazake and Kabura concept cars from recent years. The name 'Furai' comes from the Japanese for 'sound of wind' (one only assumes this is the atmospheric type of wind).
